This includes well drilling, crude oil production and processing as well as transportation via pipeline resp. vessel. Main technologies such as conventional (primary, secondary, tertiary) and unconventional production (oil sands, in-situ), both including parameters like energy consumption, transport distances, crude oil processing technologies are individually considered for each production country. All crude oil delivering countries, including domestic production, contribute by their corresponding shares (taken from national statistics) to the crude oil mix. The inventory is mainly based on secondary data.1301The data set represents the national / regional consumption mix (supply mix) including domestic production and imports.Foreground system:
The country / region specific crude oil consumption mix, mix indigenous produced crude oil with imports of crude oil from the corresponding producing countries. The mix can be seen for a specific country / region as average crude oil consumed. The pie chart presented below represents the crude oil consumption mix.
For the crude oil transportation the following modelling is used:
Indigenous production: For national offshore production a pipeline transport between the oil field and the shore is considered. For national onshore production no specific pipeline is modelled.
Imports: Starting from an exporting country / region crude oil is either transported via pipeline directly to the border of the consumer country / region or via tanker vessels. In case of vessel transport, the crude oil is in some cases first transferred in pipelines to the next export terminal within the exporting countries in other cases the crude oil is directly exported from the oil platforms.
For the whole crude oil supply (indigenous production and imports), an average regional distribution (via pipeline) is estimated. This regional distribution averages the distance from the shore or onshore production site resp. the vessel terminal or border of long distance import pipeline to the consumer.
The data set considers the whole supply chain of crude oil, i.e. exploration, production, processing, the long distance transport and the regional distribution to the final consumer. Losses occurring during transportation via pipeline or vessel are included.
Background system:
Electricity: Electricity is modelled according to the individual country-specific situations. The country-specific modelling is achieved on multiple levels. Firstly, individual energy carrier specific power plants and plants for renewable energy sources are modelled according to the current national electricity grid mix. Modelling the electricity consumption mix includes transmission / distribution losses and the own use by energy producers (own consumption of power plants and "other" own consumption e.g. due to pumped storage hydro power etc.), as well as imported electricity. Secondly, the national emission and efficiency standards of the power plants are modelled as well as the share of electricity plants and combined heat and power plants (CHP). Thirdly, the country-specific energy carrier supply (share of imports and / or domestic supply) including the country-specific energy carrier properties (e.g. element and energy content) are accounted for. Fourthly, the exploration, mining/production, processing and transport processes of the energy carrier supply chains are modelled according to the specific situation of each electricity producing country. The different production and processing techniques (emissions and efficiencies) in the different energy producing countries are considered, e.g. different crude oil production technologies or different flaring rates at the oil platforms.
Thermal energy, process steam: The thermal energy and process steam supply is modelled according to the individual country-specific situation with regard to emission standards and considered energy carriers. The thermal energy and process steam are produced at heat plants. Efficiencies for thermal energy production are by definition 100% in relation to the corresponding energy carrier input. For process steam the efficiency ranges from 85%, 90% to 95%. The energy carriers used for the generation of thermal energy and process steam are modelled according to the specific import situation (see electricity above).
Transports: All relevant and known transport processes are included. Ocean-going and inland ship transport as well as rail, truck and pipeline transport of bulk commodities are considered.
Energy carriers: The energy carriers are modelled according to the specific supply situation (see electricity above).
Refinery products: Diesel fuel, gasoline, technical gases, fuel oils, lubricants and residues such as bitumen are modelled with a parameterised country-specific refinery model. The refinery model represents the current national standard in refining techniques (e.g. emission level, internal energy consumption, etc.) as well as the individual country-specific product output spectrum, which can be quite different from country to country. The supply of crude oil is modelled, again, according to the country-specific situation with the respective properties of the resources.Supply of 1 kg crude oil to refineries.Energy_Crude_Oil_SupplyEnergy_Crude_Oil_Mix_PHLCI resultAttributionalNoneAllocation - net calorific valueFor the combined crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGL) production allocation by net calorific value is applied. All data used in the calculation of the LCI results refer to net calorific value.NoneGaBi Modelling PrinciplesGaBi Energy Modelling PrinciplesGaBi Refinery Modelling PrinciplesCut-off rules for each unit process: Coverage of at least 95% of mass and energy of the input and output flows, and 98% of their environmental relevance (according to expert judgment). The coverage of the exploration and well installation data (crude oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids) are only 90% of mass and energy and 95% of the environmental relevance (according to expert judgment). The data sources for the complete product system are sufficiently consistent: The data on the energy carrier supply chain are based on statistics with country / region-specific transport distances and energy carrier composition, as well as industry and literature data on the inventory of exploration, production and processing. Infrastructure data are from literature. LCI modelling is fully consistent.NoneIn terms of the country / region specific crude oil production, missing data of certain parameters has been used from countries with a comparable technology. Data measured at a group of representative production facilities have been used to represent the national production.NoneCrude oil imports 2014Consolidated Monthly Bulletins 2014Oil Supply/Demand Report FY 2014Petroleum and Natural Gas Statistics 2014 (Perangkaan Petroleum Dan Gas Asli)Energy Statistical Annual Reports Import of Crude Oil Classified by Sources, 2016EIA countries analysis - Singapore EIA countries analysis - Indonesia SAPIA 2014 Annual Report Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Statistical Yearbook 2014Oil Supply Sources To California Refineries Sri Lanka to increase oil imports from Saudi Oil Supply/Demand Report FY 2012Petroleum and Natural Gas Statistics (Perangkaan Petroleum Dan Gas Asli)Import of Crude Oil Classified by Sources, 2014SAPIA 2013 Annual ReportOil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Statistical Yearbook Chiffres Clés 2010 du Secteur de l'Energie, 2013Balance de Energia del PeruEnergy Statistical Annual ReportsEIA countries analysis - SingaporUkraine's oil and gas sector - an emerging opportunityEIA countries analysis - IndonesiaAnnual Report 2012India's country-wise crude oil importsEIA countries analysis - ChinaOil Supply Sources To California RefineriesEnergy Statistical Annual Reports, 2012Annual report 2011, 2011Chiffres Clés 2010 du Secteur de l'Energie, 2011Petroleum and Natural Gas Statistics, 2011Emergency Oil Stocks in the Energy Community Level, 2011Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Statistical Yearbook, 2011EPA - Health and Environmental Effects Profile for 2-Chloro-1,3-Butadiene, 1984The Future of Unconventional Oil, 2012Canadian Oil & Gas Statistics, 2012Vented and Flared Natural Gas, 2012Global Gas Flaring Estimates 2010, 2012OGP - Environmental performance in the E&P industry 2010, 2011OGJ - 2012 Worldwide EOR Survey, 2012Erdgas und Erdöl in ZahlenErdgas und Erdöl in ZahlenEOR Survey 2008Environmental Report 2007Enhanced Oil Recovery by CO2 injectionEngineering Data BookElectricity Use of Enhanced Oil Recovery with Carbon Dioxide (CO2-EOR)Das Buch vom ErdölCrude Oil and Natural Gas Drilling ActivityComparison of North American and Imported Crude Oil Lifecycle GHG EmissionsCarbon Dioxide - Enhanced Oil RecoveryCanadian Oil Sands: Development and Future OutlookCalifornia Water Usage for Injection Purposes 2008BP Statistical Review of World EnergyAverage Depth of Crude Oil and Natural Gas WellsAutogas in EuropeApplication for Approval of the Shell Scotford Upgrader 2 ProjectApplication for Approval of the Carmon Creek ProjectAnnual Report on Form 20-F 2008Annual Report - Reserves, Resources and Availability of Energy Resources 2007Analyst Data Book 2009Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis (ANP), Statistical data, 20052008 Annual Report of the State Oil & Gas SupervisorWorldwide Oil Production 2009Worldwide Gas Processing Survey 2008World's Largest N2-Generation PlantWorld Proved Reserves of Oil and Natural Gas, Most Recent EstimatesWorld Production Data on Natural Gas, Crude Oil and Natural Gas Plant LiquidsWorld Ports Distances CalculatorWorld Energy Outlook 2008Western European cross-country oil pipelines 30-year performance statisticsUS Data on Onshore and Offshore ProductionUK Production Data ReleaseTPAO '08 Annual ReportThe Worldïs Giant Oil FieldsThe Saudi Arabian Oil MiracleThe NPD Fact PagesThe Campos BasinSustainability Report 2007-2008Statistical Yearbook 2009Shell Scotford Upgrader 2 ProjectShell Middle Distillate Synthesis (SMDS)Rohstoffmarkt im Umbruch und mit steigendem RecyclinganteilProject Information Sakhalin-1International Agency for Research on CancerPerformance of European cross-country oil pipelines - statistical summary of reported spillages 2002Ölsandgewinnung und -verarbeitungOil Sands FeverOil Field Information 2008NGDC/STP - Global Gas Flaring EstimatesLife Cycle Assessment Comparison of North American and Imported CrudesInternational Petroleum Encyclopedia 2009Growth of world oil fieldsGrowth in the Canadian Oil SandsGeological Survey World Petroleum Assessment 2000Fuel Pathway Lifecycle Analysis for ULSD From California Crude And Refined In CaliforniaExxon Crude Oil AssaysExxon Crude Oil AssaysExploration Technologies - EOR Process DrawingsErdöl und Erdgas: Suchen, Fördern, VerarbeitenUpstream of crude oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids (NGL) and sulphur productionConsolidated Monthly Bulletins 2013Oil Supply/Demand Report FY 2013Petroleum and Natural Gas Statistics 2014 (Perangkaan Petroleum Dan Gas Asli)Energy Statistical Annual Reports Import of Crude Oil Classified by Sources, 2015EIA countries analysis - SingaporeEIA countries analysis - Indonesia SAPIA 2014 Annual Report Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Statistical Yearbook 2014Oil Supply Sources To California Refineries Foreign Sources of Crude Oil Imports to California 2015Imports (by Country of Origin) - Oil - Annual Data Oil Information 201795.02008-2017noneThe data set can be used for all LCA/CF studies where crude oil (i.e. refinery) is needed.
