(DBC) (A1-A3)technology mixproduction mix, association / model EPD, valid for Germany1 kg; density: 1 - 1.6 kg/lAdmixtures, liquid or powdery agentsMaterials productionOther mineralic materialsThis dataset represents the results of an association EPD (Model EPD) for which the product of a group was selected that shows the highest environmental impacts in this group to calculate the Life Cycle Assessment. The members of the association are indicated on the association homepage.
This data set contains the results for the modules A1-A3 according to EN 15804 and is valid for all products within the indicated range of density. For an application of the dataset the specific density of the product has to be taken into account.
The production of the packaging materials is taken into account in A1-A3. The open waste flows in this process can therefore be linked (see also comment for the respective flows in the LCA tab).
The following modules are declared for this product in the underlying EPD: A1-A3
The following datasets are available for this product in the GaBi database: A1-A3
A comparison with other products is only allowed by a similar application in the building. In principle, a comparison or evaluation of EPD data is only possible if all the datasets are created to be compared to EN 15804 and the product-specific features are considered.428It exclusively applies for plants in Germany and the product groups referred to for a period of five years from date of issue.Foreground system:
Within this Model EPD the environmental impacts are displayed for the manufacture of admixtures of the German association Deutsche Bauchemie (DBC). Admixtures are liquid or powdery agents that are introduced in small amounts (< 5% by mass of the cement content) to concrete while it is being mixed and that enhance the properties of the freshly poured and/or hardened concrete. Plasticizers and superplasticizers are admixtures which reduce the water content of mixed concrete without detriment to its consistency or enhance its slump with or without change to the water content or cause both effects simultaneously. They can also display a retarding effect when used as combination products. The product displaying the most environmental impacts was applied as a representative product for calculating the Life Cycle Assessment results. The concrete admixtures are usually mixed together from the ingredients in batch mode and filled or packed into the containers, whereby quality standards to the specifications outlined in EN 934-6:2001 “Admixtures for concrete, mortar and grout – Part 6: Sampling, conformity control and evaluation of conformity”, poss. DIN EN ISO 9001 and the conditions of relevant regulations such as the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health or the Pollution Control Act are observed. During the production of concrete, concrete admixtures are usually added along with the mixing water or
premixed concrete. Whereby health and safety measures (eye protection, hand protection, poss. respiratory equipment and body
protection) are to be taken and consistently adhered to in accordance with the information on the safety data sheet and conditions on site. On account of their composition, concrete admixtures are allocated to the GISBAU Information Product
Codes BZM 1, 2 or 3. Reusable containers are taken back by the
manufacturer and redirected into the production circuit. Empty plastic or tinplate containers which can no longer be used are recyclable. Wooden reusable pallets are taken back by the manufacturer or building material trade (reusable pallets remunerated in the German deposit system) who return them to the building product manufacturer redirecting them into the production process.
Background system:
Electricity: Electricity is modelled according to the individual country-specific situations. The country-specific modelling is achieved on multiple levels. Firstly, individual energy carrier specific power plants and plants for renewable energy sources are modelled according to the current national electricity grid mix. Modelling the electricity consumption mix includes transmission / distribution losses and the own use by energy producers (own consumption of power plants and "other" own consumption e.g. due to pumped storage hydro power etc.), as well as imported electricity. Secondly, the national emission and efficiency standards of the power plants are modelled as well as the share of electricity plants and combined heat and power plants (CHP). Thirdly, the country-specific energy carrier supply (share of imports and / or domestic supply) including the country-specific energy carrier properties (e.g. element and energy content) are accounted for. Fourthly, the exploration, mining/production, processing and transport processes of the energy carrier supply chains are modelled according to the specific situation of each electricity producing country. The different production and processing techniques (emissions and efficiencies) in the different energy producing countries are considered, e.g. different crude oil production technologies or different flaring rates at the oil platforms.
Thermal energy, process steam: The thermal energy and process steam supply is modelled according to the individual country-specific situation with regard to emission standards and considered energy carriers. The thermal energy and process steam are produced at heat plants. Efficiencies for thermal energy production are by definition 100% in relation to the corresponding energy carrier input. For process steam the efficiency ranges from 85%, 90% to 95%. The energy carriers used for the generation of thermal energy and process steam are modelled according to the specific import situation (see electricity above).
Transports: All relevant and known transport processes are included. Ocean-going and inland ship transport as well as rail, truck and pipeline transport of bulk commodities are considered.
Energy carriers: The energy carriers are modelled according to the specific supply situation (see electricity above).
Refinery products: Diesel fuel, gasoline, technical gases, fuel oils, lubricants and residues such as bitumen are modelled with a parameterised country-specific refinery model. The refinery model represents the current national standard in refining techniques (e.g. emission level, internal energy consumption, etc.) as well as the individual country-specific product output spectrum, which can be quite different from country to country. The supply of crude oil is modelled, again, according to the country-specific situation with the respective properties of the resources.Concrete admixtures are used as base materials for
the production of concrete (unreinforced concrete,
reinforced and prestressed concrete, site-mixed and
ready-mixed concrete, precast concrete). Application in
line with the manufacturer's technical documents and
Declaration of Performance.Partly terminated systemAttributionalNoneAllocation - market valueAllocation - net calorific valueAllocation - exergetic contentAllocation - massNo allocations were applied for production. Production waste for disposal was however directed to a refuse incineration plant. After incineration, credits were established for electrical and thermal energy.
Background system: For the combined heat and power production, allocation by exergetic content is applied. For the electricity generation and by-products, e.g. gypsum, allocation by market value is applied due to no common physical properties. Within the refinery allocation by net calorific value and mass is used. For the combined crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids production allocation by net calorific value is applied.
