Plan 4230The data set represents the POLYFIN specific situation, focusing on the main technologies and the legislative boundary conditions. In this EPD the ECB roofing membrane, O.C. Plan 4230 of the company POLYFIN AG is described. The O.C. Plan 4230 is a plastic roofing and waterproofing membrane consisting of the ECB (Ethylene copolymer bitumen). This thermoplastic material can be thermally welded and deformed. O.C. Plan 4230 contains a glassfleece in the middle and a polyester fleece underneath.
Manufacturing process
The production of the ECB roofing and waterproofing membranes is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001. The production of the membranes is carried out on two-nozzel extrusion plants. The raw material is heated in the extruder according to the appropriate temperature and added to the process under pressure. By measuring the temperature and the pressure, the two low-melt streams can be supervised. The central glass fleece reinforcement serves as an additional reinforcing material and therefore improves the mechanical properties of the roofing and waterproofing membranes. The polyester fleece is to ensure that the membrane can be glued to other materials or installed on rough surfaces. By regulating the emerging melt streams by the end of the extrusion nozzle the desired thickness of the roofing and waterproofing membrane is achieved. The membranes are cooled after leaving the calender stack and prior to the winding to below 30 °C.The cooling is provided by the water-cooled rollers. The heated water is cooled through a heat exchanger and goes back to the water circulation for reuse.
LCA results
The LCA results include the life cycle stages of the production of primary products, mining, processing operations and input secondary materials (eg recycling processes), their transport to the factory and the production itself, including the provision of all supplies and materials, energy, and the complete waste treatment or landfilling of residual waste during the production stage. The modules A1, A2 and A3, are shown here as aggregate modules A1-A3. If these data were calculated for other modules, you will find them separately and a consideration of the entire life cycle can be merged.

Plan 4230_POLYFIN AGLCI resultAttributionalnoneAllocation - massFOREGROUND system: Mass allocation was applied in the production processes.
BACKGROUND system: For the combined heat and power production, allocation by exergetic content is applied. For the electricity generation and by-products, e.g. gypsum, allocation by market value is applied due to no common physical properties. Within the refinery allocation by net calorific value and mass is used. For the combined crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids production allocation by net calorific value is applied.noneAll the data obtained from the data collection for the inputs and outputs have been considered, for example all raw materials used according to their composition as well as the electricity and water supplies are included in the balance. The modeling of transport is based on the primary data of the manufacturer. For all the considered inputs, assumptions for the transportation expenses were included. Thus, in accordance to the Part A PCR material and energy flows with a contribution of less than 1% to the total mass of the product are included.noneAll relevant background data for modeling the production and disposal of the roofing membranes, have been taken from the Gabi 5 database (GaBi 2010), unless otherwise stated. The average environmental burdens of the national power grid mix in the production countries are used in the model. To ensure comparability of results in the LCA, the basic data of the GaBi database were used for energy, transportation and auxiliary materials. For the ECB- granulate and for the granulate material for the credit, EPD-data sets have been used.noneThe data quality can be regarded as high. The manufacture of roofing membranes has been modeled with the primary data of POLYFIN AG. For all relevant primary materials used, appropriate background data sets are available in the GaBi database. The latest revision of the data set is up to 3 years old.noneGaBi databasesToxic polyneuritis arising during the manufacture of tricresylphosphate100.0This dataset contains results for the aggregated modules A1-A3 according to DIN EN 15804.No statementCML2001 - Apr. 2013, Freshwater Aquatic Ecotoxicity Pot.
