The members of the associations are indicated on the association homepages.
This data set contains the results for the modules A1-A3 according to EN 15804 and is valid for all products within the indicated range of density. For an application of the dataset the specific density of the product has to be taken into account.
The production of the packaging materials is taken into account in A1-A3. The disposal of the packaging can be found in module A5. The treatment of the packaging waste and the installation residues of the product lead to credits declared in the EPD in module D. The open waste flows in this process can therefore be linked (see also comment for the respective flows in the LCA tab).
The following modules are declared for this product in the underlying EPD: A1-A3, A4, A5, D
The following datasets are available for this product in the GaBi database: A1-A3, A5
A comparison with other products is only allowed by a similar application in the building. In principle, a comparison or evaluation of EPD data is only possible if all the datasets are created to be compared to EN 15804 and the product-specific features are considered.292It exclusively applies for plants in Germany and the product groups referred to for a period of five years from date of issue.Foreground system:
Within this Model EPD the environmental impacts are displayed for the manufacture of modified mineral mortars of the three German associations Deutsche Bauchemie (DBC), Industrieverband Klebstoffe (IVK) and Verband der deutschen Lack- und Druckfarbenindustrie (VdL). Modified mineral mortars are combinations of one or more inorganic binder, aggregates, water and if necessary additives. They comply with manifold, often specific, tasks in the construction, furnishing and refurbishment of buildings. They improve the fitness for use of buildings and significantly extend the service live. The products displaying the most environmental impacts were applied as representative products for calculating the Life Cycle Assessment results. The raw materials are stored in silos, big bags or sacks in the manufacturing plant and fed gravimetrically in accordance with the respective formula and mixed intensively. The mix is then packaged.Modified mineral mortars can be processed both automatically and manually. The mortars are either automatically removed from a silo using a dry conveyor or manually taken from the container, mixed with water and installed. The professional liability association's rules apply as well as the respective safety data sheets pertaining to the construction products. On account of the various hydrate levels of cement, lime and calcium sulphate binding agents in the mineral mortar, the fresh mortar mixed with water is usually strongly alkaline. In the case of more extensive contact, this alkaline state can cause serious damage to eyes and skin. Therefore, any contact with eyes or skin must be avoided by taking personal protective measures and the information outlined on the safety data sheet must be observed.
Uncontrolled dust emissions should be avoided.Modified mineral mortars may not be discharged into the sewage system, surface water or groundwater. Waste incurred on the building site (packaging, pallets, residual mortar) must be collected separately. Suitable waste disposal companies dispose of packaging materials and mortar sacks and return them to the recycling circuit. Dry mortar residue is taken back by the manufacturing plants and used as a raw material. No dry mortar residue in mortar sacks is incurred. Hard mortar residue can be recycled or disposed of as building site rubble. Empty, trickle-free paper containers and clean PE foils can be recycled. Wooden reusable pallets are taken back by the wholesalers (reusable pallets remunerated in the German deposit system) which returns them to the building product manufacturer who in turn redirects them into the production process.
Background system:
Electricity: Electricity is modelled according to the individual country-specific situations. The country-specific modelling is achieved on multiple levels. Firstly, individual energy carrier specific power plants and plants for renewable energy sources are modelled according to the current national electricity grid mix. Modelling the electricity consumption mix includes transmission / distribution losses and the own use by energy producers (own consumption of power plants and "other" own consumption e.g. due to pumped storage hydro power etc.), as well as imported electricity. Secondly, the national emission and efficiency standards of the power plants are modelled as well as the share of electricity plants and combined heat and power plants (CHP). Thirdly, the country-specific energy carrier supply (share of imports and / or domestic supply) including the country-specific energy carrier properties (e.g. element and energy content) are accounted for. Fourthly, the exploration, mining/production, processing and transport processes of the energy carrier supply chains are modelled according to the specific situation of each electricity producing country. The different production and processing techniques (emissions and efficiencies) in the different energy producing countries are considered, e.g. different crude oil production technologies or different flaring rates at the oil platforms.
Thermal energy, process steam: The thermal energy and process steam supply is modelled according to the individual country-specific situation with regard to emission standards and considered energy carriers. The thermal energy and process steam are produced at heat plants. Efficiencies for thermal energy production are by definition 100% in relation to the corresponding energy carrier input. For process steam the efficiency ranges from 85%, 90% to 95%. The energy carriers used for the generation of thermal energy and process steam are modelled according to the specific import situation (see electricity above).
Transports: All relevant and known transport processes are included. Ocean-going and inland ship transport as well as rail, truck and pipeline transport of bulk commodities are considered.
Energy carriers: The energy carriers are modelled according to the specific supply situation (see electricity above).
Refinery products: Diesel fuel, gasoline, technical gases, fuel oils, lubricants and residues such as bitumen are modelled with a parameterised country-specific refinery model. The refinery model represents the current national standard in refining techniques (e.g. emission level, internal energy consumption, etc.) as well as the individual country-specific product output spectrum, which can be quite different from country to country. The supply of crude oil is modelled, again, according to the country-specific situation with the respective properties of the resources.Modified mineral mortars are used for the following applications:
Module 1: Modified mineral mortars as repair mortar for the protection and repair of concrete structures
Module 2: Adhesives based on modified mineral mortars
Module 3: Modified mineral mortars as joint fillers
Module 4: Modified mineral mortars as cementitious screed, floor levelling compounds, filler, flowing screed
Module 5: Modified mineral mortars as levelling compounds for walls and ceilings
Module 6: Modified mineral mortar as grouts
Module 7: Modified mineral mortars for waterproofing slurries
Module 8: Modified mineral mortars as repair mortarPartly terminated systemAttributionalNoneAllocation - market valueAllocation - net calorific valueAllocation - exergetic contentAllocation - massForeground system:
For the production no allocations have been applied. During the combustion of packaging a multi-input allocation is used with a credit for electricity and thermal energy by the method of simple credit. The credits through the packaging waste are taken into account in module D.
Background system: For the combined heat and power production, allocation by exergetic content is applied. For the electricity generation and by-products, e.g. gypsum, allocation by market value is applied due to no common physical properties. Within the refinery allocation by net calorific value and mass is used. For the combined crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids production allocation by net calorific value is applied.
